Huawei’s biggest European Store on Madrid’s Gran Vía
Delve into this story of design and architecture, geared towards generating authentic customer experiences.
01 The Opportunity
In 2012, Huawei decided to take a giant leap forward in terms of its retail expansion, opening its first store in one of the European countries with the highest number of smartphone, telephony and mobile technology consumers: Spain. In the race to become the leading technology firm in Europe and having already found them the perfect head office in Madrid, Huawei once again placed its trust in Cushman & Wakefield for the development and design of its new flagship store in the capital, committing to a model focused on customer experiences. This would go on to become the largest Huawei store in Europe.
It was essential to find a premises in the centre with high footfall and the Gran Vía, in the very heart of the city, fitted the bill perfectly. The area is outstanding in terms of retail and tourism and houses multiple flagship stores and retail premises.
The challenge for Cushman & Wakefield’s Project & Development Services department was highly ambitious given that the design needed to be anything other than conventional, identifiable with the Huawei brand and generate a unique experience in order to attract a high number of customers and tourists to this technology centre.
02 The Solution
One year later, on June 24, 2019, the new "Huawei Space” opened its doors, creating a new meeting point for customers of the brand. A retail premises with an exclusive, original design. From the beginning, a commitment was made to curves, helping shoppers on their journey through the store, accompanied by distinctive lighting that reminds consumers of the brand’s logo.
The user experience begins in a two-storey space with terraces that enable events and exhibitions to be held at the entrance to the store. The ground floor is envisaged as a museum where technology is used to show the entire history of Huawei, from its birth as a company up to the latest product launches. With the goal of capturing customers’ attention, an innovative, immersive space was designed for connection with the first floor, where products on sale are displayed, accompanied by a variety of other services related to leisure: a photography workshop, game zone, smart home, business center, training room, etc.
03 The Result
In a very short period of time the Huawei Space has become an icon on the Madrid’s Gran Vía. 1.100 sq m that are far from being just another store. It captures a large number of visitors thanks to the original façade and attractive design visible through this.
It offers training free of charge and boasts experience, exhibition and expert areas covering lifestyle and trends, sports and health, art and photography, video, multimedia and technology (videogames, robotics and editing) among others.
This space represents just the beginning of a major push that the brand wishes to make in Spain. Following the opening of the Madrid flagship store, the new premises will be opened in the centre of Barcelona and will follow the same guidelines in terms of concept and design, focusing on user experiences accompanied by technology and innovation.
