BMS: Offices adapted to new ways of working
01 The Opportunity
Following the merger between Bristol Myers Squibb and Celgene, in 2020 the opportunity arose to group together their two offices and create a single head office for this new phase for the company, making it the main lever of change in this historic milestone for the business.
The time came to forge a community. In order to achieve this, it was necessary to seek out a building in harmony with the company’s corporate values and design and work on a process to create the best possible working environment to reflect this new phase.
02 The Solution
Creation of a multidisciplinary team comprising the Global Occupier Services, Tenant Rep and Project & Development Services departments, tasked with seeking out and finding a location in keeping with the new phase for Bristol Myers Squibb (BMS), and which looked towards the future. The property finally chosen was ARQBÓREA, a new building of the highest standard in terms of specifications and comfort and which is a benchmark for sustainability and accessibility: Leed Platinum, Well Health-Safety rated 2020 and first SmartScored Gold certified building in Spain.
"The final choice of Arqbórea as the site for our new offices was based mainly on the fact that it is a building conceived with a Smart focus aimed at optimising the global management of the building, reducing its environmental impact and ensuring a high degree of well-being and the health and safety of its users."
Roberto Sanz. Senior Manager Facilities & EHS
Having chosen the space to be occupied and closed a lease agreement through our Tenant Rep. team, the design and architectural team developed a concept inspired by the landscapes of Spain and aligned with the values of the business regarding diversity, sustainability and inclusion - a space in which everyone within the company feels at home. This diversity of spaces and environments responds to the need to implement the new, flexible working models that BMS is rolling out worldwide.
In conjunction with the global and local teams of BMS, Cushman & Wakefield’s Change Management team developed a bespoke change management plan following three lines of action:
- A communications plan involving everyone in the company in the change of head office
- A timetable for actions to involve everyone by means of a variety of collaborative design interventions,
- And a programme to adopt new working models through Change Champions and Ambassadors, hand-in-hand with Managers.
The entire process was led by a project leader from the Project Management division. This person was the sole point of contact with the client and brought together communications between all of the stakeholders participating in the development of the project.
03 The Result
Flexible offices with a high capacity for adaptation in line with new working models and the values of BMS, a workplace that is much acclaimed by the company and, due to their involvement from day one through the Change Management process, a space to which the people that form part of BMS feel proud of going to work each day.
"We have implemented the new BMS Workplace model In these new offices, combining novel office concepts and spaces together with new working models: a new hybrid working model that brings together office and remote working, enabling the flexibility to continue adjusting to future needs."
