#CWEmbraceEquity

08/03/2023

#EmbraceEquity - that is the motto of International Women's Day 2023 (IWD). A motto that we at Cushman & Wakefield absolutely stand behind: We embrace equity. Three simple words that say a lot: equal working conditions, equal opportunities, equal possibilities, for women and men, for everyone in the company.

You hear "Equity - that goes without saying," almost everywhere. But if you take a closer look, you can still see a lot of potential for action. Because there are still sometimes big differences in social role requirements, career opportunities and salaries: The woman takes care of the household and children, and perhaps contributes a few euros to the household income via a part-time job. The man devotes himself primarily to his career as the main breadwinner. His time with the children is mainly at the weekend.

At Cushman & Wakefield, we promote equity. For us, the commitment and skills of each individual count. But equity is by no means everything we advocate. Change, sustainability, technology, leadership and community, for example, are other topics that are important to us. Why? We asked some of our female colleagues.

I embrace equity

"Having already worked as a graphic designer on a self-employed basis in real estate, I wanted to establish myself even more firmly in the real estate sector. I joined Cushman & Wakefield six months ago as a graphic designer in the Capital Markets Sales Team in Munich. I received a very warm welcome and was given all the support I needed to settle in and get started right from the very first day. I really enjoy working here and feel totally at home in the team. I have the impression that everyone is very welcome at Cushman. Many teams are very diverse and intercultural. And everyone has the chance to contribute to the company making the best of their own strengths and personality."

I embrace change

"I knew quite early on that I wanted to do something in the field of communication. I had already learned German as a foreign language while at high school in my home city of Hanoi in Vietnam. After a ten-month student exchange in Munich, I was determined to complete my studies in Germany. I am now studying online communication at the University of Applied Sciences in Darmstadt. At Cushman & Wakefield, I have had the opportunity to gain practical experience in Marketing & Communications, with a focus on digital marketing. I'm currently working as a student trainee in the marketing team and I'm growing beyond myself with every new task. I love having varied activities in an intercultural company and being able to develop myself further."

I embrace sustainability

"It is very positive that ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance)  criteria have firmly established themselves in the economy and have thus become a central issue for companies. Especially in the real estate sector, as one of the major CO2 emitters worldwide, this is essential. In my role as Head of Asset Services in EMEA and a member of the strategic leadership team in Europe, as well as the EMEA D,E&I Council and EMEA ESG Steering Committee member, I have the opportunity to further advance this important topic. It is a task that is particularly close to my heart and one that I take very seriously. ESG is the foundation of our Asset Services business and is firmly embedded in everything we do. It is a subject which is not only close to my heart, but those of the entire team."

Tina Reuter, Head of Asset Services EMEA

I embrace technology

"My father was an architect and that inspired me to become an architect too. Today I work as an implementation planner at Cushman & Wakefield. What attracts me to this technical profession is its tangibility. You start something and can work through it step-by-step. In addition to my interesting tasks, the beautiful working environment and pleasant colleagues mean I enjoy coming back to work every day. From my point of view, not enough has been done in terms of diversity in the past ten years. But I can imagine that the proportion of women in STEM professions will increase in future. Because the young generation is growing up with a completely different understanding of roles. For them, women in traditionally male professions and vice versa are increasingly normal."

I embrace leadership

"I have been leading the German HR team at Cushman & Wakefield for three years. From my own experience, I can say that diverse teams have a positive impact on the working atmosphere and the success of a company. For us, it is therefore a matter of course that fairness, equality and diversity are part of our corporate culture. Of course, this is only possible with managers who live and promote diversity themselves. It is important for me to use my role as Head of HR to promote diversity in our company. Be it as a role model, skills provider or as part of our WIN team (Women Integrated Network)."

Angelika Georg, Head of Human Resources, Cushman & Wakefield Germany

I embrace community

"Diversity in the company is not taken for granted, but has to be specifically promoted. Via strategic guidelines, the managers themselves and clear employee communication. As patron of our WIN community (Women Integrated Network), I therefore focus on exchanging views and dialogue with our colleagues. Our WIN group meets in training sessions, workshops, lectures and engagement events to exchange ideas on topics related to diversity and equality. In this way, we quickly find out what is on our colleagues’ minds, where they still see a need for action and what we can do as a company to promote diversity even more."

Demand for rehabilitation clinics is rising

Extremely high demand and net initial yields of between 4.3 and 4.8 percent  investing in rehabilitation clinics has become a trend in recent years. No wonder, given the demographic shift and the associated increase in chronic illnesses as well as operations requiring subsequent inpatient rehabilitation.
