Alpen TOKYO | Shinjuku Flagship Store Leasing
01 The Challenge
One of Japan's largest sporting goods retailers, Alpine Co., Ltd. opened its first store in Nagoya in 1972 as a ski store with a floor space of 15 tsubos, and celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2022. The company, which until now had developed mainly in suburban locations, felt the need to respond to customer needs in the densely populated Tokyo metropolitan area in order to realize its Purpose, "to make sports more accessible.
In addition, the Corona Disaster is raising health awareness and reaffirming the value of sports and the outdoors, as well as the value of real communication. We were looking for a store in the Tokyo metropolitan area.
02 The Solution
Cushman & Wakefield handled the leasing of the Shinjuku East Exit Yunika Building in preparation for the opening of Alpen TOKYO, the largest flagship store in the company's group history.
The Yunika Building is an iconic retail building in Shinjuku, originally occupied by a large electronics retail store, which had been vacant since its closure. The company wanted to open a flagship store here in Shinjuku, and we accompanied them through the opening process.
03 The Result
Since its opening, the response has been extremely strong, attracting more customers than expected and leading to the best possible results for both renters and lessees. The store also opened a virtual storefront at the same time it opened, enabling customers to make purchases both in real life and online.
With more and more people purchasing products online these days, real stores often find themselves in a difficult position, but the company is focusing on enhancing both, creating stores where people of all ages can easily visit from either entrance, experience the appeal of sports and the outdoors, and feel more familiar with sports. The Yunika Building is an eight-story building.
